PRESS RELEASE - NICKY HUNT JOINS ENGLAND’S AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME - 5 AUGUST 2013

PRESS RELEASE - NICKY HUNT JOINS ENGLAND’S AMBASSADOR PROGRAMME

Former world number one archer Nicky Hunt, who won two gold medals at the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games, has joined England’s Ambassador Programme.

Nicky, 28, helped England to the top of the archery medals table in Delhi three years ago as the sport made its first appearance at the Games in 28 years. Last year she had the honour of carrying the Olympic torch through her hometown of Ipswich, Suffolk.

Despite her sport not featuring on the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games’ sports programme, Nicky has signed up to become an England Ambassador and says she is looking forward to working with the team ahead of next year’s big event.

Nicky said: “I am very proud to be an England Ambassador and look forward to working with the other big names already on board. Competing for England in Delhi was a real privilege and to win two gold medals helped make it a fantastic experience. I’m sure it’ll be just the same for all the members of our team in Glasgow. With less than a year to go it’s time for everyone to start showing their support for the team. As Ambassadors we have a big part to play and I’m really looking forward to doing my bit.

Nicky joins gymnasts Beth Tweddle MBE and Max Whitlock on the Ambassadors Programme which aims to promote the England team on the journey to Glasgow and aid its performance during the Games.

The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games take place between July 23rd and August 3rd 2014 - less than a year away.  For the Official Press Release: http://www.weareengland.org/
