Ollie Taylor Comes in Second at TCR UK Series

The Easter bank holiday weekend saw the inaugural round of the TCR UK racing series, held at Silverstone on the National circuit - with Ollie Taylor achieving two podium finishes for Movac.

The TCR is a new Touring Car series in the UK following its success and popularity across the world; it is made up from multiple manufacturers producing homologated race cars based on their road going models all powered by 2 litre turbo charged engines, all running on Ohlins suspension with controlled Yokahama tyres and standardised breaks.

The first race started at 2pm on the Saturday. The grid was filled with cars, teams and supporters for the grid walk prior to the race, which made for a great atmosphere.

Ollie said: “My start was reasonably good, taking the Honda of Howard Fuller off the line and into the first turn. I had a good run through Copse (first turn) and pressured Lewis Kent into Maggots & Becketts (turns two & three), causing him to over drive into Becketts. This gave me an advantage leading onto the Wellington straight and aided me to pass Lewis under the bridge into Brooklands. Dan Lloyd and Aiden Moffett got lightening starts from the first and second, so were quite far down the road, but I set in pursuit of British Touring Car winner Aiden Moffett. His pace was consistent but I managed to close the gap to bring it closer at mid race point.

"I was the fastest car on track on a few occasions with consistent lap times throughout the race which was very encouraging. I finished the race in 3rd position, which was a great achievement given the level of experience of the two drivers in front in these types of touring cars.

“The second race started at 4pm and we were set in 7th position. I still had a competitive start overtaking two cars on the way down to turn one. I then had a good run towards turn two and three, and managed to take another car before getting to Maggots. I went onto the Wellington straight in fourth with a good run on Stuart Lines overtaking him for third. During the second race I managed to get into the 58 seconds lap time, for the first time in all my visits to Silverstone, which was less than two tenths of a second off of the fastest lap of the race. Aiden Moffett suffered a mechanical issue, meaning I was promoted to third place before the finish of the race.

“On the whole, I feel the first race weekend for the TCR championship was a great success for us; two podium finishes and 2nd in the championship. There was a lot to learn; level of competition, rate of tyre degradation, the structure of the weekend but all in all I was very pleased. The next race is at the great circuit of Knockhill in Scotland on the 12th & 13th May, which is a new circuit for me, which I love the challenge of.”
